The VIRUS Made us VIRAL - Online!

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which has practically halted international education and travel, CXI teachers and volunteers adapted. We are now offering classes and programs online in addition to our in-person and hybrid activities in the Twin Cities!

World ConneXions English (WCE)

This is a distance English learning program offered and supported by our native speaker volunteer teachers. Classes meet weekly and are held online using Zoom or Google Meet. We have a growing number of volunteer teachers and at the moment are offering 12-15 classes in Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced levels with a variety of topics for you to choose.

Please note, WCE classes are free!
All teachers are Christian Volunteers. We welcome serious students who have a strong desire to improve their English. Please join the class on time. If you are absent from our classes two times without email notice to our teacher, we’re obligated to give your spot to others on the waitlist.

Sample of Classes:

Our WCE classes focus on a wide range of topics, from basic English to content-based classes on interesting areas. Here are three examples of classes:

English Conversation: Beginner / Intermediate

Difficulty level: Beginner/Intermediate Level
Schedule: Saturday at 8:00-9:30 am. (09/18-12/18)

Mark's conversation class will focus on providing all the participants the opportunity to practice their English-Speaking skills. His goal is that each student spends at least 70% of the class time speaking English. This will be accomplished through a variety of pair conversation activities including sharing personal life happenings, what's going on in an interesting picture, feelings/thoughts/reactions about a short story, joke hearing/retelling and conversation about a Bible passage.

English book club: How to pick a spouse?

Schedule: Monday at 6:30-8:00 am. (09/13-12/13)
This is an English book club (for singles only) using Dan Chun’s book “How to pick a spouse?” His step-by-step guide will help you avoid pitfalls by helping you to saying “no” to someone in a relationship that will save you years of pain and help you clearly identify differences before the wedding, so you aren’t caught by surprise. Participants will be required to come to class prepared by doing the assigned reading and answering the study questions before class. Joe and Debby will lead participants through discussion and activities drawing on their 35 years of marriage and background in counseling and life coaching.

English One-2-One

We are excited to be starting a new, individualized, English learning experience. We call it English One-2-One, and it’s not a class, and it’s not a program—it’s truly an experience! It is designed to meet the needs of students whose busy schedules and circumstances make it challenging to attend regularly scheduled World ConneXions English classes; matching students and tutors on as-needed basis, by referral from a current teacher or volunteer only.

The purpose of One-2-One is to connect international students, scholars and families with CXI volunteers, to grow a friendship, and provide a personal connection while teaching English language skills and, where appropriate, sharing God’s grace in a relaxed setting.

In the current COVID pandemic world, we One-2-One volunteers strive to provide a personal experience one hour a week for a six week time frame. They arrange to utilize remote meetings, such as through Zoom or Google Meet, or even meeting in person following the CDC and State of MN MDH health guidelines.

Teachers: Various volunteers.

To volunteer: contact Katherine Martin, Connexions One-2-One coordinator (katherine@cxiumn.org)
